- This is meant to be a place for the Slytherins to interact. If you are a Gryffindor, Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff, then you should seek out the company of your own kind, elsewhere.
- Do not attempt to register with a Harry Potter name, ie. any name from any of the books, as those names are reserved for the staff of this site. This includes your own first name with a known HP last name. ie. Lisa Malfoy, Robert Potter, etc. This also includes titles. ie. Dark Lord Rick, Minister Stacy, etc. You should register here with the same name that you used on your Student Enrollment Form.
- Select a name that a student would have, not something such as: iluvtomfelton, or dracosgirl. Accounts registered with these types of names will be denied. Registration by non-students will also be denied.
- Do not attempt to register more than one account. Doing so may lead to your account being suspended, banned or denied.
- Be sure to enroll as a student before registering here at the message board. You may do this by going to Slytherins.com and clicking on the 'Student House Enrollment' link. Or, to go to the form directly, click here. After you've submitted the enrollment form, register here at the message board with the same name that you enrolled with as a student. Again, be sure that name is one you would use as a student, and not a screen name. ie. Princess, Slytherin Lisa, Wizard Tim, aren't names to be used here. Lisa King, Tim Rowland, Ashleigh, Mazlius, Scarlet, etc., are.
- All accounts are automatically registered in lower case letters. Once you are approved, be sure to edit the way your name is displayed, by capitalising your name.
- You must be at least 13 years old to be a member here. Even if you wish to come here as a First Year, you must actually be at least 13 years of age to become a member here.
- Do not post links to other sites or boards without Administrative permission. It's rude, and doing so may lead to suspension or removal of your account.
- Do not come here to harvest emails for your own purpose, ie. inviting our members to your own board, etc. Anyone found to be doing this, will be removed. Our members found us, yours can find you, too.
- Disrespect of any member of Slytherin House is not allowed, or tolerated, and offenders of any rules will be banned.
- If you register here, it is with the knowledge that you come here as a student. As a student, you will behave as one. You will not be all-powerful. You will not speak or act with disrespect or disregard to those in authority. You will show appropriate and fitting behaviour when confronted with suspected or known Death Eaters, who may or may not let you live through such an encounter. You will also show appropriate and fitting behaviour when confronted with your superiors. If you are unclear on who those may be, this is likely not the place for you.
- You will not be a Vampire, Werewolf, or anything other than what you've presented on your enrollment form.
- Due to the ignorance of others, all new applicants will be expected to submit a detailed character description. These should be sent directly to the Professor, through the contact information provided for him on the site. Those who register without doing so will have their admission denied.
- Discussions and interactions are to remain within the realm of the Harry Potter world. Any out of character discussions may only take place within the 'Muggle World' category. Out of character discussion posted anywhere else will be deleted and the offender will be warned. Excessive warnings may lead to suspension of your account. While the 'Muggle World' category is meant for the members (students) out of character discussion, do keep in mind that the staff can and will post in this area, and that the staff remains in character, even in the 'Muggle World.' Always be mindful of this, when replying to any member of staff. Also, even though the posts members make could be considered 'out of character,' this is a place meant for Slytherins, so find a way to conduct yourself as one, even while speaking out of character in that section of the board.
- Do not post or share any personal information, such as your age, address, phone number, etc. This should be common sense, but sense is anything but common, it seems. Even though this is an approved membership community, it is still being viewed by people that you don't actually know, and should therefore be considered public. Sharing details of your personal life is a potentially dangerous thing to do.
- While roleplaying, offer more than just a one word reply. Set a scene, write actions in your posts, and give a thoughtful reply. Pointless and extraneous posts can and may be removed.
- 'Netspeak' is not allowed here. If you don't know what that means, here is an example. Do not use 'u' in place of 'you,' or '2' in place of 'to.' In other words, speak properly here, as any self-respecting Slytherin would.
- Do not act for, speak for, or write for anyone other than yourself. This means that you do not say that a character here told you something, or did something, or went with you somewhere, etc., unless that character has indicated such themselves, ahead of time. The only exception to this, is writing for another student/character of your own creation that you may be engaged in conversation or conflict with.
- All discussions are to remain on topic. Those that venture off topic may have their non-topic posts deleted. If you wish to discuss a subject other than one that is currently being discussed, create a new thread for it. Be sure to check that a thread doesn't already exist for the subject you wish to talk about, before creating a new thread.
- Should you wish to take on the role of a known character that you do not see on the site, (ie. Crabbe, Goyle, etc.) or any character other than that of a student of your own creation, you must possess excellent writing and grammatical skills, be a member in good standing, (or a non-member, who possesses excellent writing and grammatical skills, along with above average 'acting' skills) and contact a member of Administration to inquire about the audition process. Non-members may retrieve the contact information from the main site, slytherins.com.
- It is best to always read over what has been posted, before making your own post. If you see that a scene has been set between certain characters, do not invite yourself into the scene, unless you can clearly tell that it would be all right to do so. This would especially apply to private places, such as Professor Snape's office. However, if you are in a public area such as The Common Room, you may still post there with your own scene, just don't intrude upon someone else's scene, if it's obvious that other characters are in the middle of something, where an interruption wouldn't be welcomed.
- This home belongs to the staff members, who will always have the final word on matters. Should you cause any problems, and depending upon the situation, your account will either be disabled for a set amount of days, until you agree to, and can be a productive member here, or you will be permanently removed from the board.
- This is meant to be a place of interaction. If within approximately one weeks time after your account has been approved, you have not participated in any way, your account will be deleted. If you participate for a while and then become inactive, your account may also be at risk of being deleted. This is dependent upon the situation. ie. if you've notified us ahead of time that you won't be here for a certain length of time, how long you've been a member here, etc.
These guidelines will be revised as needed.
